Wellbeing in South Karelia

Wellbeing services county of South Karelia​​ produces health services, family and social welfare services, and services for the elderly. We arrange and produce equal and easily attainable social and health services for all residents in South Karelia. 


Wellbeing services county of South Karelia​​ is a joint municipal authority of the South Karelia region, covering nine municipalities: Imatra, Lappeenranta, Lemi, Luumäki, Parikkala, Rautjärvi, Ruokolahti, Savitaipale, and Taipalsaari.

Health services

The aim of the health services is to maintain and improve the health, wellbeing, working and functional capacity, and social security of people, as well as to reduce health inequalities.

The system is based on preventive health care and comprehensive well-run health services.

Wellbeing services county of South Karelia provides social and health services in all nine municipalities of the South Karelia region.

We have over 5,000 professionals in different fields who work together to offer you high quality health and wellbeing services.

Non-urgent care at health stations

At health stations, nurses and doctors will examine you and treat your symptoms and illnesses.

Nurses’ appointments include health advising, wound care, suture removal, and vaccinations. Where required, the nurse will refer you to a doctors’ appointment.
The service is subject to a fee.

Booking an appointment at a health station

Book an appointment with a doctor or a nurse by calling a joint, regional telephone number:
05 352 7260 (Mon–​Fri at 07:00–20:00​).

A nurse will assess your situation on the phone, consult a doctor where required, and refer you to a doctor, nurse, public health nurse, or physiotherapist. You may also receive home care instructions.

Remember to cancel your appointment if you cannot attend your scheduled appointment. Booked appointments must be cancelled by phone. A fee (€50.80) will be charged for unused appointments that have not been cancelled.

Urgent care

In life-threatening situations, call the emergency number 112. In non-urgent matters, please contact your local health station or occupational health care provider.

Our health stations and the Central Hospital emergency unit will help when you become ill suddenly or have an accident. We treat patients in the order of urgency.

Call the Medical Helpline’s toll-free number 116 117 before seeking medical attention.

We treat emergency patients 24 hours a day. If you have a sudden illness or injury, the primary place of care is your local healthcare centre, which is open on weekdays. If the healthcare centre is closed, urgent care is provided by the South Karelia Central Hospital in Lappeenranta.

Cancelling your appointment

If you wish to cancel your appointment, please contact the unit in question directly. A fee will be charged for unused appointments that have not been cancelled.
